Choosing a House Cleaning Company:
7 Questions to Ask Before You Hire

Professional House Cleaning
Call a few cleaning companies and you’ll hear a lot of the same promises. Trained staff. Fully insured. Satisfaction guaranteed. Those things matter, but when everyone says them, they stop helping you choose the right house cleaning company.
The real differences show up in the details: how the work gets done, who checks it, and what happens when life gets in the way. Here are seven questions worth asking any cleaning company before you hand over a key, along with what you’ll often hear and how we handle each one at Home Cleaning Centers of America. And yes, we’ll get to those whole-house cleanings that cost less than a pizza, and why their customers keep calling us.
Still deciding between a cleaning company and an independent cleaner? Start with our guide, Home Cleaning Company vs. Independent? How to Choose.
1. How Is the Work Organized?
The Question
Every cleaning company has a way of working. What you want to know is whether that method lives in a system or in one person’s head.
What You’ll Often Hear
Most companies give their cleaners a checklist of what to clean, and many assign one dedicated cleaner to your home. There’s real comfort in a familiar face. The trade-off is that your clean depends on that one person. When they’re sick, on vacation, or move on, the quality can go with them.
How We Do It
Every visit follows The HCCA SPARKLEWORKS™ Cleaning Process, a defined plan for how our team works together and moves through your home. Everyone has a set role and knows exactly what comes next. New team members learn one part of the process at a time and focus only on that part until they’ve mastered it, working alongside the team with their supervisor checking the work. And we make every effort to keep your Team Supervisor the same from visit to visit. But because every supervisor follows the same SPARKLEWORKS process and signs off on every home against the same standard, your clean never depends on any one person having a good day.
“…every person knows their job and does it quickly but thoroughly…” — Christine K., Haslet
2. Who Checks the Work, and When?
The Question
A cleaning is only as good as the last look before the team walks out the door. Ask who does that looking, and when.
What You’ll Often Hear
Some companies send a supervisor to spot-check homes from time to time. With a solo cleaner, the person who did the work is usually the only one who reviews it. And if you book through a platform that matches you with independent contractors, there’s often no one from the company in your home at all, and no one whose job is to check the work.
How We Do It
Your Team Supervisor inspects completed work at least twice during every visit, by sight and by touch, while the team is still there to correct anything that falls short. That includes your Client Specific Checklist, the record of your personal preferences. Before anything goes back in the car, the Supervisor signs our Residence Quality Certification, a personal commitment that your home has been inspected and completed to HCCA standards.
“They always ask if I’m happy before they leave…” — Carol M., Keller
3. What’s Included in Every Recurring Cleaning?
The Question
If you’re signing up for regular cleaning, ask exactly what gets done on each visit. The answer shapes how your home looks and feels between visits.
What You’ll Often Hear
Every company answers this differently. Task lists vary, what one company includes another may charge extra for, and some focus on certain areas more than others. Some work on a rotation: a basic clean everywhere, plus a deeper clean of one or two areas each visit, so each part of your home waits its turn. Whoever you call, ask to see the full list so you know what you’re paying for.
How We Do It
With our ESSENTIAL recurring service, kitchens and bathrooms are deep cleaned on every visit, because they’re the hardest-working rooms in your home. Everything else is dusted, vacuumed, and mopped along a set path, room by room, so nothing gets skipped and nothing gets done twice. You can see every task included on our [ESSENTIAL service page].
4. What Happens If Something Is Missed?
The Question
No one is perfect, including us. What matters is how easy a company makes it to set things right.
What You’ll Often Hear
Most reputable companies offer a satisfaction guarantee, but the details vary. Many ask you to report a problem within 24 hours, and some schedule the return visit for the next day, which can mean rearranging your plans around the fix.
How We Do It
We come back and correct it at a time that’s convenient for you. The whole point of hiring a cleaning service is to give you time back, and fixing something we missed shouldn’t cost you more of it.
“Anytime I’ve had a problem it’s taken care of.” — Christina B., North Richland Hills
5. What If Your Schedule Changes?
The Question
Plans change. A meeting runs long, a doctor’s appointment moves, the grandkids come early. Ask what it costs you when that happens.
What You’ll Often Hear
Many companies don’t require contracts, but some charge as much as half the cost of your cleaning if you cancel without enough notice. Notice windows of two or three days aren’t unusual.
How We Do It
No contracts. No cancellation fees. No reschedule fees. Ever. If your week changes, we’ll work with you to find a day that fits. (Comparing us to a discounted membership? Read Before You Book That Bargain below first.)
“…they are always there when they say they’re coming, but are flexible if I need a change…” — Jennifer B., Keller
6. How Will They Know You’re Happy?
The Question
Every company says your satisfaction matters. Ask how they actually find out.
What You’ll Often Hear
Most companies welcome feedback. Fewer ask for it after every visit, and fewer still connect what you tell them to how their teams are coached and paid.
How We Do It
After every visit, we ask you to rate your team from 0 to 10. Every rating is reviewed and every comment is read. A 9 or 10 earns your team a financial reward. A rating of 8 or lower leads to coaching, and if you don’t tell us why, we’ll call to find out what we missed. The people cleaning your home have a real stake in how you feel when you walk in the door.
“…the team always asks for feedback as to what they can improve on.” — Paula C., Grapevine
7. Do They Specialize?
The Question
What a company is built around shapes everything, from how it trains its people to the services it offers. Ask what they focus on.
What You’ll Often Hear
Many cleaning companies clean both homes and offices.
How We Do It
We clean homes. Only homes. That focus lets us build services around the people who live in them, not just the square footage:
• ESSENTIAL keeps busy households on a regular schedule.
• SOMETHING-IN-BETWEEN is for homes that need more attention in some places than others.
• GOLDEN YEARS and SIMPLECARE are for seniors who want to keep enjoying the homes they love, with a little extra help. Programs like these are hard to find.
“…take care of every detail that matters when it comes to cleaning my home…” — Ryan J., Fort Worth
Before You Book That Bargain
For a while, our phone kept ringing with people who wanted to cancel their cleaning. We know our clients by name, and we didn’t know these callers. When we explained they’d reached Home Cleaning Centers of America, the answer was usually some version of: “Well, yours is the only number I could find!”
So Michael went looking. He found the platform’s booking page, which he couldn’t click his way out of, and no phone number, no email, and no “contact us” anywhere.
If a whole-house cleaning costs less than a pizza, it’s worth asking who pays for the rest. Eventually, it’s usually you.
The Offer
Some booking platforms don’t employ a single cleaner. They connect you with independent contractors, charge a membership fee for the privilege, and step back. The first cleaning comes at a rock-bottom price, and booking takes just a few taps.
What’s in the Fine Print
Read it. Then read it again. With some of these offers, you’ll find:
• A monthly membership that renews on its own until you cancel.
• A membership fee that doesn’t include any cleaning.
• The cleaner’s hourly rate and booking fees added on top.
• A fee if you cancel the membership early.
• No one from the company in your home.
• No phone number or email, just a way to book.
You get to pick a profile. What you don’t get is anyone whose job is to check the work. A booking platform can find you a cleaner. It can’t stand behind the work.
How We Do It
The only thing we’ll sign you up for is a clean house. No memberships. No contracts. No cancellation fees. The people who clean your home are our employees, trained on our process, with a Team Supervisor in your home on every visit. And if you ever need us, you can reach the owners directly: call (817) 395-1050 or text (833) 276-4441.
“Clear pricing and estimates, excellent communication, and very accommodating.” — Jennifer W., Fort Worth
Before you click “Book Now,” ask:
• Am I signing up for a membership?
• Does the membership fee include any cleaning?
• What will it cost me to cancel?
• Who employs the person coming into my home?
• Can I reach a real person before I pay?
Try finding a phone number before you book. If you can’t reach them before they have your credit card, don’t count on it after.
Ask Any Cleaning Company
• How is the work organized?
• Who checks the work, and when?
• What’s included in every recurring cleaning?
• What happens if something is missed?
• What if my schedule changes?
• How will you know I’m happy?
• Do you specialize?
A great clean shouldn’t depend on one person, or on luck. It should come from a process you can count on, people who take pride in doing it well, and a company that checks its own work before you ever have to.
“We have had other cleaning companies but this one far surpasses all others.” — Sally F., North Richland Hills

FAQs
What happens if my usual Team Supervisor isn't available?
We make every effort to keep your Team Supervisor the same from visit to visit, but schedules, vacations, and life don't always cooperate. When someone else leads your cleaning, your home doesn't start over. Your Client Specific Checklist travels with every job, and your supervisor reviews it with the team before the visit begins. Every supervisor follows the same SPARKLEWORKS process, inspects the work the same way, and signs the same Residence Quality Certification before the team leaves.
What's on my Client Specific Checklist, and how do I add to it?
It's our record of everything that's personal to your home: the products you prefer, how you want your floors dried, where your pets stay while we clean, how you like your lights and thermostat left, and any special care your surfaces need. Before each visit, your supervisor walks the team through it, and at the end, your supervisor verifies every item personally. To add or change something, tell your Team Supervisor at your next visit, leave a note for them, or call us at (817) 395-1050 or text us at (833) 276-4441, and we'll make sure it's on your checklist from then on.
How does the rating after each visit work?
After every visit, you'll get a short text from us asking you to rate your team on a scale of 0 to 10. You can tap the link or simply reply to the text. Every rating is reviewed and every comment is read. Great work earns your team a financial reward, and a rating of 8 or lower leads to coaching. If you give us an 8 or lower without saying why, we'll call you to find out what we missed, so we can make it right and make sure it doesn't happen again.
